Batteries
Lithium ion batteries (LIBs) are essential to modern daily life, powering smartphones, laptop/tablet computers, and increasingly electric vehicles. The field of electrochemical energy storage is a highly interdisciplinary with chemists, material scientists and engineers working together to address the many challenges to safe, long life, energy dense batteries. At the Ï㽶ÊÓƵ, chemical engineers are contributing through the development of novel solid-state lithium conductors (solid electrolytes), engineering electrochemical interfaces through surface functionalization and coatings, and by advancing next-generation lithium ion battery designs
